Bringing a baby home is one of those occasions which you can never be adequately prepared for. The first step of preparation however begins with the baby’s room and there is nothing more exciting than preparing the room to welcome your baby home. Here are some handy tips to ensure a safe and comfortable for baby and you.

Be practical: When choosing the room for the baby be practical. It can be either your own room or a separate one, but ensure that the room is in a quiet corner of the house. You may need to shuffle the furniture in the room to make it more practical and baby proof.

Climate control: Depending on the climate of the place of your residence ensure adequate climate control in the baby’s room. In case you live at a place with a hot climate, make sure the baby’s room is adequately ventilated and in case the general climate is cold ensure adequate heating for a pleasant temperature for the baby.

Light but not bright: in the initial months, the roof of the room is what the baby will look at the most. So ensure that there is no harsh light on the roof or the room. Make sure that tech lighting in the room is soft and subtle and not directly in the baby’s line of sight. In case the natural lighting in the room is bright, using window curtains is a good idea, especially when the baby is sleeping.

Baby proofing: The room and all the furniture in the room need to be baby proofed. The flooring needs to be carpeted for padding to avoid chances of any serious injury. Ensure adequate means of waste disposal so that the hygiene in the rooms maintained. Clean the room with a vacuum cleaner to make the room dust free.

Calming colors: Use calming soothing pastel colors in the baby’s room. To bright and bold colors may agitate the baby. Ensure that the furnishing in the room matches. While it is preferable for the furnishing to match, it’s important for it to be practical too.

Baby monitor: Place the baby monitor in a way that it remains out of the way while ensuring that it is close enough to keep watch on the sounds in the baby’s room.

Organize: Everything that the baby requires should be organized in the room. Everything from diapers, to wet wipes to medicines should be organized in the room to make it handy and within reach all the time. The baby’s clothes, blankets and all other changes of clothes should be kept with reach.

Pick the right crib: Ensure that the baby’s crib is safe. The crib slats should not be more than 2-3 inches apart to ensure the baby’s safety. Additionally, it helps to line the crib with long pillows so the baby doesn’t bump into the slats. Ensure that all mobile hangings on the crib are out of the breach of the baby. Ensure that the color/ coat/varnish on the crib has been dried long enough and it doesn’t give off fumes.
